Vielen Dank für die Ankunftszeit am Flughafen, was uns hilft, Eure tatsächliche Ankunft in der Wohnung zu berechnen.
A propos Flughafen: Am Besten tauscht Du etwas am Flughafen um, ca. 50 Euro, um das Taxi zu bezahlen und das Notwendigste vor Ort, bis Du in der Stadt eine Wechselstube findest (heißt Cadeca), die offen ist und einen besseren Kurs anbietet. Am Sonntag z.B. sind die Wechselstuben nur zum Teil offen, einige bis 12 Uhr, andere gar nicht. Du tauscht die Euro in CUC, Cuban Convertible Peso, mit denen Du alles bezahlst. Euro wird manchmal von Privatleuten angenommen, aber ungern, da sie sich mit dem Geld nicht gut auskennen. Der CUC ist vom Wert her ungefähr wie der Euro, nur etwas weniger, je nach Wechselkurs. Genauer gesagt ist er ein US-Dollar-Pendant. Die Pesos Cubanos, die eigentliche Nationalwährung der Kubaner, mit denen Angestellte bezahlt werden, ist nichts für Euch, damit kommt Ihr vielleicht gar nicht in Berührung. Auf Obst –und Gemüsemärkten sind die Preise in Peso Cubanos, aber Ihr bezahlt in CUC.
Bitte beachte, dass als Kreditkarte die Master-Card nicht funktioniert (Visa ja), aber in Restaurants etc. erfolgt die Zahlung ohnehin nur bar, nicht über Kreditkarte.

There are various ways to travel within Cuba – be aware that the prices are estimations and you should inquire once you are there in Cuba:
1) Collective taxi: You may take a so-called "collective taxi" which could be an old car of the 50-ies (sometime with or without air-conditioning) or a modern car (which air-conditioning). For example the cost from Havana to Trinidad would be about 30-35 CUC per person. The good thing is that the collective taxi picks you up at the place you wish and brings you to your point of destination. As Cubans improvise, you should directly let my family or Frank know upon your arrival at our place, so they can help you organizing this.
2) Bus: Another way, the cheapest, is you go with a Cuban bus called Viazul with air-conditioning. However, this requires more efforts as you need to book this in advance directly at the bus station in Havana (you go there with a taxi…). As a rule, you cannot book this through internet or telephone (nobody answers), and it may be that the trip turns to be already booked out once you are at the bus station (happened to me). Also, you will not be picked up where you wish but need to go to the bus station (usually with a taxi) and you are only brought to the bus station of the city of your destination, not to the exact point you wish to be. So, ultimately, this is much more work and less convenient.
3) Private taxi: Finally, you may of course rent a car with a driver (e.g. an old car of the 50-ies) to bring you to your point of destination. This seems more expensive but could be interesting if you are several people and you share the cost. In any event you can stop wherever you want, as the driver is at your disposal.
4) Own car: As a foreigner you may not rent a car from private companies or individuals (e.g. the old cars from the 50-ies), only from governmental/State enterprises (‘Cubacars’ which are more modern cars). You find the rental offices in big hotels such as the hotel Parque Central near the central park, or Hotel Plaza nearby. Sometimes the cars are all booked out, so you should either rent it in advance in your homecountry through internet, or immediately upon arrival in Havana stop by in an office and reserve a car in advance. I think there is no substantial price difference between booking directly in Cuba or through internet in advance.
